Enamel paint is a type of slow-drying paint containing a resin. Traditionally, all enamel paints are oil-based, but this is no longer the case. There are no rules or regulations determining which components an enamel paint contains, so there can be significant differences between one manufacturer’s enamel and another’s.
What Sets Enamel Paint Apart?
Enamel paint is glossy, but there is a significant difference between a standard semi-gloss wall paint and a true enamel paint per liter. Strong3000 wall paint provides good coverage, is easy to apply, and dries quickly. Enamel coating does not include this and is more difficult to apply. Depending on the base (oil, water, or hybrid), it can take up to a whole day to dry. But it’s not all bad.
Benefits of Enamel Paint:
An enamel stays wet longer, allowing for more leveling of the material. This application results in a smooth, sophisticated, and almost glass-like finish. The resin added to enamel produces a much more durable surface compared to a semi-wall paint, making it perfect for any surface that will undergo more handling, such as pots and furniture.
Different Types of Enamel Paint:
Companies that produce enamel paint currently offer three different enamel applications. Here are your options:
Water-Based Enamel:
- Easier application
- Quick drying
- Average coverage
- Mild odor
- Soap/water cleanup
- Less durable compared to other enamels
Oil-Based Enamel:
- May not be available
- Slightly difficult application
- Very slow drying
- Good coverage
- Strong odor
- Mineral/thinner cleaning
- Provides a very smooth, durable coating
Hybrid Enamel:
- Relatively new in the market
- An emulsion, essentially an oil enamel coating that uses a water medium
- Easier application
- Good coverage
- Dries faster than oil, slower than water-based enamel
- Low odor
- Soap/water cleanup
- Very durable, beautiful finish
Paint Additives:
Companies that produce enamel coatings prefer that you use their products straight from the tin and unthinned or unaltered. However, some manufacturers allow for some alterations. In Istanbul, additives for extending the lifespan of water-based, hybrid, and oil-based enamels can be purchased. Make sure to read the instructions of additives closely and ensure you add the minimum amount required to achieve the desired effect. There are many other additives for enamels: hardeners, adhesion promoters, and even accelerated dryers. It is advisable to test any of these enamels with your additives on your cabinet, trim, or furniture before application. When in doubt, read the coating’s technical data. TDS is available on all paint manufacturer websites and knowledge repositories: drying time, application recommendations, application thickness recommendations, acceptable uses, technical tests, and ratings made on the coating, and even component lists. Enamel pot repair is a repair method. Enamel repair putty is manufactured for this process. However, it should be done by experts.
